Line Managing the Mathematics Department (Video)

I’ve made a video going through the key aspects of mathematics in school that I think line managers of the maths department need to know, including the way maths ‘works’, how it is fundamentally different to many other subjects, and how these differences affect things like curriculum design, marking and feedback, setting/grouping and pedagogy.

If you line manage maths or if you’re a head of department who’d like some focus on the kinds of discussions to have with a line manager, feel free to use this video. The presentation (containing the links mentioned) is below.

Specific mentions go to Mark McCourt for the Jenga tower analogy and the blogpost on setting, and to Ruth Ashbee for helping me to think about the continuum on which the subjects lie.
